ELEPHANT Book
The second book of this life-long project. It’s 202 pages. It’s full of color. It’s gorgeous. And there are ONLY 100 OF THEM in the whole wide world! The Bestiary books are translations of the performance. There’s the script and stage directions, photographs by Valerie Oliveiro, drawings by Andy Warfel and me, stills from the videos used in the show, scans from journals and (this is quite nice) sheet music of all the ELEPHANT songs by Bestiary composer/performer Chris Peck. Like MONKEY, the first book from The Bestiary, the ELEPHANT book is the size of a field-guide – a sweet little handheld 5″ x 6.5″. I love how it turned out.
I want all the Bestiary book production to be green. Like the MONKEY book, I worked with the good folks at Yorke Printe Shoppe. They’re based outside Chicago (semi-local for me … at least compared to printing in Iceland or China) and work with recycled paper and waterbased/non-toxic inks. I found them through Eric Benson’s Re-Nourish site – a source for designers looking for sustainable solutions for their work.
